Last last Saturday while I was visiting Japan I was surprised to see that Nakasu, the local nightlife-slash-red light-district (also known as the 'Den of Scum and Villainy') was holding a live Jazz event that night.
Nakasu is actually an island formed in a fork in the Naka river right before it enters Fukuoka bay. At at l...Read more
On my Saturday afternoon during my recent trip to Fukuoka, I stopped by one of my favorite shops in town. In English its called 'Mandrake', but the Japanese name comes out to be 'Mandarake' (マンダラケ).
Its a bit of an OTAKU PARADISE... full of anime, manga, toys, games and other collectables. Its quite huge by Japanese standards, like 4 or 5 stories. Unlike ...Read more
We had a LOT of trouble confirming our venue for our Halloween Party, but I have had enough time to start considering some costume ideas. You'll recall two years ago I got a pretty kickass 'Super Mario' costume in Tokyo, so this year I thought I'd check out the options available here. I went to the 'InCube' store in Tenjin to check out what they had.
While I was passing near by stopped by QB House, the '10 minute haircut' chain. I had been telling my friend about it a few days before, so I stopped to snap some pics.
Being Japan, they have to give some informative info graphics.

Yes, I did take a short trip to Japan this weekend. I decided to come back to Fukuoka, the city in Western Japan where I used to live before moving to HK.
I'll be too busy enjoying the food and friendship to update my blog much for the next few days, but here's a quick one to hold you over.
Near my hotel I found a new (to me) Maid Cafe. Back when I lived here, there were only two or three places. Now there seem to be more, now even here on the Hakata side of the river:
In Hong Kong's busy lifestyle, some people you see way too often and some people you don't see nearly as often as you'd like. Among the people I don't get to see as often as I'd like is Gloria and her friends Joey and Tiffany. Even though I had two other events to go to on Friday, I made some time to join the ladies (plus their friend affectionately known as "Ten Dollar") at a party put on by HK clothing shop D-Mop. It was related to a Sanrio collection they were launching and...Read more
ok, here's my long awaited review of the iPhone4. Its been exactly 9 days since I picked it up, so I think I've been using it enough to give a fair review of its strengths and weaknesses.
(FYI - I upgraded from a 2 year old iPhone 3G, so this review will mostly comment on the iPhone 4 relative to the 3G. People with a 3GS already have access to some of the features which are 'new' to me.). ;-)

I'm happy to announce that we FINALLY, finally made Cecilia Cheung's profile on AnD 'official'!
After Nicholas started his blog on AnD a few years back, she expressed an interest in joining as well, but because of the difficulties of her busy schedule and having their second son this past year, we held off on launching it. But finally today we got the OK! ;-)
Yesterday I went over to the new shopping mall on Nathan Road in TST known as 'The One', it just opened last week. It will house an IT super-store and a movie theater, but they haven't opened yet. One of the few places open already is the new tuttimelonlocation. Those of you from California may know tuttimelon, its a popular chain of Frozen Yogurt shops that started in the San Francis...Read more
