a few interesting moments to report from tonight's illustrious inaugural session of coutts' women in asia awards at the four seasons hotel. i found it hard to believe that, literally, i knew 7 of the 9 nominees tonight, making it a banner day for both friendship and "girl power", to borrow a term from one of the winners' acceptance speech.
Claire Hsu, winner of the Rising Star award, who ascended the podium first during the evening, closed her remarks by saying, &qu...Read more

yesterday, i moderated a media lunch for intelligence squared, the cultural debating franchise, about climate change, meaning that i had to get up to speed on this profound topic in the few days preceding the event -- no small feat, considering that the speakers were gwyn prins, the lse professor who wrote "time to ditch kyoto&qu...Read more
today marks my first day blogging for clean air network, http://www.hongkongcan.org/, considering that we're building what i hope will become the premier cause-related social media marketing platform in hong kong, it's become obvious that a personal, idiosyncratic voice can only help build the audience. our facebook group, at 7000 pax, http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/cleanairnetwork?r...Read more
it's been terrible that i've been awol for so long! but since my last post, i've launched a consumer brand called BioFriend, which you can now find in Watsons. believe it or not, i was marketing a medical face mask that kills swine flu when swine flu broke out in april, explaining why i've been underwater for so long. the biotech company which created this mask has now gone from being a long gestating startup to a company well on track to doing an ipo on a major stock exchange. it has bee...Read more
it's been unforgivably long since i wrote an update, but i wanted to announce to y'all that i've embarked on a brand new adventure: i'm now the CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) of a biotech company (HK's ONLY biotech company, i might add), Filligent. i joined it after learning that it had invented a CIGARETTE FILTER WHICH ELIMINATES CARCINOGENS FROM CIGARETTE SMOKE without affecting any aspect of the smoking experience (taste, draw, pressure, nicotine!, humidity, etc.) crazily, but, as usual in the pinball machine of my life, i met t...Read more
why is it that there is no such thing as a slow ramp-up back to daily life in hk, where you don't feel like you're hitting a brick wall as soon as you step out of the airport? i've only been back for less than a week and i need a vacation again -- already!

we -- IN HONG KONG and ONLY in hk -- expect our cantopop stars and starlets to be perfect, plastic, pre-pubescent, desexualized, eternally teenage, virginal human beings, rather like living hello kitty characters -- rather than full-blooded adults who engage in normal activities, like sex, recreational drug use, cursing -- well, the full gamut of normal behavīor of fully-formed human beings, replete with the inevitable deficiencies of behavīor and character. the fact that we are horrified and transfixed by...Read more
my dream last night.
suddenly, my stomach started feeling jumpy -- but to the point where i could see some creature's head, literally moving beneath the skin on my abdomen. the thrumming sensation turned into something much more violent, jumping. at which point, i actually stuck my hand into my abdomen and tore out a small dinosaur. naturally, that left a huge gaping hole in my gullet. another small dinosaur quickly followed on the heels of the first. and i had to dip my hand into my abdominal cavity again, this time, ripping off m...Read more
