Sunday I spent most of my time cleaning up my home and getting ready for Peter’s visit. Tam dropped by for a while with his friend James, and Sherry spent some time at my place too. Even Zhu Wen Jun and her ex-bf (who’s name I forget — nanquan guy from S.U.S.) dropped by for a bit.

Realizing that I just had a short time before I would start moving to Hong Kong I decided to spend this week working on preparing for the move. When moving to a new city there are a lot of things to consider, but I think for myself I came up with a philosophy that works well for my purposes: The less you have to move, the easier it is.

When I arrived in Hong Kong on Monday afternoon it was just in time for a meeting we had scheduled with Terence’s aunt, who is a very accomplished journalist/writer who would be working with us on Chinese language content for AnD. We met and then all had dinner at a nice little restaurant around the corner.

Monday - January 15
Besides hanging out at Pat’s until the house-cleaner left, I spent a fair time of the afternoon in the office. However, I had an appointment to go check out those apartments in Ma On Shan in the evening so I was planning on leaving around 5:30 or 6:00 to get out there. January 10 - Wednesday
After waking up and showering we all made our way down the hill to get some plane tickets for Pat and Stephen (Pat was going up to Beijing for the weekend and both of them were going to Xiamen the following weekend. Considering what time we got to bed the night before (err .. morning of, rather) I didn’t wake up until 4:00 p.m. the next day. It’s strange to wake up and watch the sun set … but I suppose every once in a while it doesn’t hurt to have one night of recklesness for the sake of getting it out of your system.

I had planned to go straight to Shanghai to take care of some loose ends and preparations for a friend’s visit, then return to Hong Kong on Sunday evening. But it turned out that Pat was having a birthday dinner in Xiamen on the night of the 18th so I thought I would take a day and go spend some time celebrating his eventual decline into senility before heading up north.

To be honest, the last few days in Seoul are kind of a blur. I just remember some of the highlights which I will post up here:
The first was that Jisue went out a few times to meet up with friends and some professors (since she’s leaving on the 16th to move to New York) so while she would go out to do those things I would stay behind and watch DVDs or do some work on the computer. I spoke too soon when I said I was being gyped on the whole snow thing. After waking up on Saturday there was quite the flurry of snowfall going on outside. That combined with the cold on the ground made it stick pretty quick. Within a few minutes we had a nice initial layer of accumulation on the ground. It was quite nice, but unfortunately would be short-lived. Throughout the rest of the day it slowly warmed up and the sun came out and melted most of the initial fall. We ended up waking up around 10:30 or 11:00 and after a bit of getting ready we headed down the block to a cafe for some sandwiches and coffee/tea. The weather was so warm it was possible for us to eat outside on the patio area the resataurant has. I’m really getting gyped on this Korean winter, but I figure it’s payback for the hellish winter I had in 2002/2003 where I had to walk about 5 miles in the snow uphill (both ways) at 1:00 a.m. on New Years Eve/Morning.
