Dragon Tiger Gate Casting for Series

The Hong Kong martial arts film starring Donnie Yen that made a hit in 2006 will soon be coming to the small screen in the form of a new television series. Dragon Tiger Gate is based on the popular Hong Kong comic book, Oriental Heroes, which bears the same Chinese name as the movie.

Now, casting is underway for Dragon Tiger Gate - The Wizard Pack, a new series to be shot in China.

It’s a martial artist actor’s dream – a new television series based on a successful film looking for martial artists. We haven’t seen this much excitement since we featured the casting for Blade TV series

based on the popular Wesley Snipes films of the same name. Unlike the Blade series however, which ultimately chose a (somewhat) name talent rather than martial artist for the lead role, the new Dragon Tiger Gate series is casting martial artists first and foremost.

Of course there are a few more requirements.  You must have acting training or experience, appear between the ages of 18 to 29, and be an Asian male or female. Auditions will be held in Vancouver, Canada. More information can be found here in the Casting section .

ABOUT THE FILM

Dragon Tiger Gate stars Hong Kong mega-star Donnie Yen ( SPL, Hero, Blade II, Iron Monkey) and tells the story of three young martial arts masters who emerge from the back streets of Hong Kong to help the powerless fight injustice.

Dragon Tiger Gate is a martial arts academy established by two powerful martial artists (one specializing in attacks with the hands, and the other, attacks with the feet and legs) to stand up for righteousness, so that citizens of the city will no longer be bullied by the triad gangs. The school also acts as a haven for children who have have become orphaned as a result of gang activities.

Donnie Yen, known for his signature fight style, also served as fight choreographer and action director. His co-star Nicholas Tse already had a strong foundation in martial arts and Shawn Yue trained with Tse for months before shooting in order to get up to speed for the blockbuster's action scenes.

A punching bag (pictured at right) constructed for the film, measuring about 8 feet high, 5 feet wide and weighing nearly 400 pounds was certified as the world's largest by Guinness World Records. The prop is used by the villain of the film.

In addition to the television series, the director, Wilson Yip , and cast will also return for a sequel: Dragon Tiger Gate 2.
