Another DVD review - "My Girlfriend is an Agent" (7급 공무원 ) an entertaining, but not super ground breaking Korean action comedy I watched recently.
Is this another one of those movies where the title gives you the entire premise of the movie up front? Well sort of, perhaps the title should be "My Ex-Girlfriend is an Agent and so am I".
Basic premise is that a seemingly normal girl (Kim Ha-neul 김하늘), claims to be a travel agent but is actually an undercover Korean National Intelligence Service agent. She must come up with elaborate lies to try and keep her boyfriend (Kang Ji-hwan 강지환) from finding out. Eventually he is fed up with her deception and runs off to the US to forget about her. 3 Years later he comes back to Korea and their paths cross again... except it turns out he has become a secret agent too in the meanwhile, working in a competing branch of the same intelligence agency. They both end up working on different sides of the same case and bumping into each other... much hilarity ensues. :-P
The girlfriend is the more experienced, more competent of the two... Kim Ha-neul did a good amount of her own stuntwork in the film. Of course you can guess how it ends, they're going to eventually figure out that they're both secret agents on the same side and fall in love again, but its the process to get there that is important. The outcome is relatively entertaining, with enough good laughs in there to keep you from getting bored, the action sequences are somewhat competently done too.
