A quick blog about last night (i started typing this up last night but was too tired to finish!)
Yesterday was Boon's birthday, so we went out to Korean BBQ after work, then we went to play some poker with most of the usual suspects and a few first timer attendees. In the middle of one round in our first game, Janelle had them bust a surprise on Boon:
昨日はボーン君の誕生日でした。焼肉の後、ポーカークラブでケーキーを上げた:
He's only 4 years old! Sorry my phone camera pics aren't that great.... (read this to know why I've got no digital camera!)
Of course there was a lot of drinking mixed in too: もちろん彼達たくさん飲んだ:
(i took this one with Janelle's Panasonic).
The poker was fun and challenging, we had two friends of Andrews from China playing and they were super aggressive betters!
But the first game went my way. After losing a few early hands I went silent for a while and then struck with a really big hand:
If I remember correctly this was a 4 person hand all the way to the end, since three people were all-in. I had the A-5, I managed to take out everyone else out because they were all straight drawing, but i had the high pair (and ultimately ended up getting a flush anyway) ;-)
then it was quickly down to just me, our visitor Mr ZJ and Janelle (aka JZ). JZ took her out in a big hand and then it was heads up. I had a slight lead in chips but it could go either way. It came down to a REALLY crazy hand!
He had a A-K, I had J-J... both very playable in heads-up! So obviously we both stayed in for the flop. it was an K-Q-10. So we both thought we were doing pretty good. I was a bit worried since I only had a pair of Jacks but I was also 1 card away from a straight and two away from a flush. But I didn't realize that ZJ already had a pair of K's with an A! :-O
So we both went all in and showed our cards. I was stunned when I realized I was going to lose badly! they dropped the 4th card (a 4 of spades, which means no chance for me to get a flush), and then finally the 5th card - it was an Ace:
Everyone was like 'oh man, he just got two pair! he totally kicked your ass' and I too thought I lost, but luckily before we started to clear the chips I was like ' hey wait... 10,J,Q,K...+A, I've got a straight!' it was quite lucky! ;-)
They played a second game, but i was tired so I decided not to play, it was fun to just watch how everyone else plays without worrying about my own cards. I think I learned quite a bit from sitting it out. The game was similar to the first one except Michael got an early lead but couldn't match our aggressive friends from the Mainland. Ultimately they knocked out everyone except for eachother and they decided to split the pot.
Frustration from the recently knocked out!
I took a fun 'God of Gamblers' type picture with the winners:
Those really are their chips at the end of the game, but the giant SKOL beer is not mine!
