on Monday night I went to check out another fancy nokia launch event, this time held at the Watermark above the Star Ferry Pier. Nokia is launching a new model, the Nokia 5800 'XpressMusic' -- which is apparently NOT Nokia's first touch screen 'smartphone', but it is one of the few they've tried.
As you may have heard, Nokia has lost a lot of market share over the last year to iPhone and windows based models, so this innovation makes sense.
月曜日晩セントラールで携帯のPRイベントを参加した。ノキーアの発売だった。とても高買った、有名なポープスターが居るから。下の写真を見て下さい:
They obviously spent a lot on the entire event, outside the entrance they had a reception area w/ cocktails and some PR girls showing off the phones, then at 9 we went to the back area where they had a rather fancy stage set up.
Turns out that giant mock-up of the phone (built around a giant plasma TV) could actually rotate, so depending on what they were doing they would have it rotated one way or another.
Here it is rotated sideways:
As you may have been able to guess based on the last Nokia event I attended, they like to spend $$$ on getting recognizable names to work at these events. (yes its Donald).
They also brought out two musical acts to perform:
Its William Chan ( 陳偉霆 ). You can see the TV screen is still rotating when I took this picture.
He did a pop dance number. Apparently Elena knows one of his back-up dancers.
Next up they had Raymond Lam( 林峯), he came out and sang a Cantonese pop ballad while his MV played on the TV behind him.
I felt like I was at a Karaoke except w/o the words on the screen.
The real surprise was the third guest - Charlene Choi ( 蔡卓妍) formerly of the pop duo Twins.
I've had a chance to see or meet a lot of HK actors and actresses over the last few years, but I have never actually seen her in person til now.
She looks quite good in person.
Here's a bunch more photos (for the Charlene Choi fans who may be reading this):
She was there to demo some games on the phone... for some reason they brought out these two kids who looked totally lost:
it was a racing game... so he's wearing a bicycle helmet and she's wearing a bikini... makes perfect sense! :-P
I'm 99% sure they were just playing a recorded video on the screen, i don't think she or the kid were actually playing the game...
here's a few close-ups for you guys:
then they brought everyone out, including the HK Nokia GM 'Bruce':
they did some demos of entering characters into the phone using the stylus, one guy did english, one did chinese, and charlene did japanese:
actually i'm pretty sure this was pre-recorded too, they were all holding the phone up and down and the screen was being displayed side to side behind them. :-P
"Free phone, score! thanks Bruce!"
Nokia definitely spent a LOT of money on this thing... the stage and decorations outside must have been many hundreds of thousands of HK$... and I'm guessing the talent was even more. :-P
after the demos were over these 'models' came out with their prop phones and did more posing for photos:
the girl in the gloves and ferrari hat caught my attention... fashion taste aside, didn't really fit w/ the other four... :-P
yes, nokia is connecting people!
On the way out i found our three guest stars doing press interviews out at the front entrance:
