watched on the plane on the way back to HK -
'My Piano' (호로비츠를 위하여) is a melodrama about a young woman who decides to open up a piano school after her professional career fails to take off. She ends up finding out that the neighborhood street urchin / problem child is actually a musical genius and takes him under her wing. Can she heal his anger and abandonment issues so his musical talents can be recognized?
The main roles is played by Uhm Jung-hwa ( 엄정화) who you may remember from such Etchy Korean film reviews as ' Princess Aurora' and ' Mr. Handy Man'. She does a decent job with pretty cliched material (of course you know going into this that the kid turns out to be brilliant and makes it big...) The plot has a few twists and turns to keep things from being too boring, and I thought the role of the would-be suitor Pizza Shop owner helped a lot.
Note to self - time to move to Korea and start learning the piano...
ps - I'm curious if Uhm Jung-hwa and the kid can really play piano, they seemed pretty convincing. :-P
