My good friends at Nixon hosted a 2011 collection launch event at Shore last week. I didn't get there in time for the celeb appearances at the signing board, but that's OK, I was there for the good stuff! ;-)
First of all they had some amazing display cases set up showing some of their watch collections -
In Industry terms this is 'Visual Marketing'... aka Product displays. ;-)
This one was for their white watch series... the theme was milk! :-P
(there was real milk in the bottles but the spilled milk was simulated!) ;-)
The coolest one was for their 'gun metal' collection. The pic didn't come out too clearly, but the display was full of lots of fun stuff... bullets, screws, guns and skulls... (and ?Nixon watches of course!) :-P
In the back on Shore's balcony they had a nice selection of DJs spinning tunes while HK's 'tastemakers' drank up a storm and enjoyed the bearable evening weather while it lasted.
G-style totally keeping it cool along with Kiki and her girl band.
It was getting late and I wanted to go home and sleep, but I stayed long enough for the final round of the lucky draw. I'm glad I did, I lucked out!
Rex, Kiki and I were amongst the many winners to get free samples of Nixon's new collection.
The boxes aren't the actual ones we got (good, I didn't want a white ladies watch for sure!) ;-)
I picked up my watch the next day, unfortunately I had to get the bracelet (technical term for the band) adjusted before I could wear it. Luckily this is HK and there's an app for that -
Mr. Chan's watch repair booth in CWB. I have had to use him to change a battery on an occasion or two... took him only about 30 seconds to adjust the bracelet length... $20 HK...(US$2.50) hmm, pricey for 30 seconds of work! :-P
Here's the final view. not too bad. two time zone Nixon men's collection piece known as 'The Banks'.
Since coming to HK I have become a bit knowledgeable on watches (my first job at a university here was on a watch manufacturing project). These pieces are moderately priced with good quality and Japanese electronic movements. Nothing spectacular on the technical front, so its mostly about the exterior design. I found many of their designs pretty cool, including this one. My only complaint, no glow in the dark on the hands. (my Pulsar still wins out in that category!) :-P
