I just got back from scuba an hour or so ago, and i couldn't wait to put my pics up on my blog.
My coworker Tom picked me up at 8am and we drove down to Saikung, thank god i am still jet lagged from the US or i wouldn't have been able to get up and get packed in time!
We ended up waiting at the waterfront for group to assemble and get on launches to head out to the dive boat...
this is from the small boat riding out to the big boat. it turns out there were about 50 divers on the boat we were riding on. 7 of us were doing 'discovery scuba' -- the intro tour where you don't need a license.
This was the dive boat we were on, it was quite big and well appointed. Tom and I were invited to go by our lab group member Sego. He is a certified dive master...
As you can guess, with 50 divers it was really hectic and crowded, gear all over the place! That's Sego in the picture on the right.
And here's Tom and I:
僕とTom:
Yes ladies, thats all me in the wetsuit.... and yes I am that pale.
Despite putting on copious amounts of sunscreen, all the time in the water caught up with me, I am already pretty red on my forehead and the backs of my hands! I'm worried that I have a tan line from where my diving mask was, i don't want to look like an inverse raccoon!
We did two sessions, the first one was on a beach on Jin Island (or rather a rocky shore) to go over the technique and practice in shallow water and the 2nd one was after lunch off of some island near HKUST.
The afternoon dive was good, but the visibility was kind of crappy relative to my other scuba experiences. I did see lots of fish and sea urchins, but its hard to match Hawaii...
(pat and I went in 2005 off the big island).
I'm going to take my licensing course w/ these guys next month though, so that i can take advantage of my next trip to Hawaii... (or malaysia/thailand/australia, etc).
On our way back to Saikung, there were tons of cruise boats coming back in... lots of party boats (similar to what you may remember from such etchy blog entries as this one).
Back on dry land, I had to stop and take a picture of this NOW TV / Netvigator promo team:
Of course I took the picture to add the costume guy to my Kigurumi photo album, not for the cute campaign girls!
ps - for the HK based guys, let me know if you're interested in taking the class - its in the evenings, i think they want to start next week or the week after....
