One of the benefits of this job is that we get to go to a lot of concerts. In exchange for helping to promote events for other groups, sometimes we get offered complimentary tickets. One event I was happy to get invited to attend was the recent performance by Snap! at the Venetian Macau.
Yes, that Snap! As in "I've got the Power!"... .which was a big hit back when I was in High School... along with other dance hits of the early 90s (C&C music factory anyone?) it was one of the songs that got me turned on to R&B / Hip-Hop / Dance music (and the rest is history!)
It didn't seem like that many people were interested in this show though... I guess it shows my age!
Ultimately Patrick, Joe Fiorello and I went, and we met up with some friends in Macau.
Penny Ford, the ORIGINAL vocalist for Snap! (sang on the Power, but not on Rhythm is a Dancer)
Benjamin, not the original rapper for Snap! (Where's Turbo B?!?) Not original, but he did a good job.
I suspect we're going to be all over the highlight video for this on Aomen.tv! :-P
Nice, we get branding and we're not even a sponsor! :-D
Now to us in the USA, Snap! is just a fun memory of a 2-hit wonder dance music act from the early 90's... which is why I think it was hard to convince people to come check out this concert. But for people from Germany apparently Snap! was a much bigger deal... this woman from Germany was literally in tears watching them perform. (they gave her a special 'Deutchland-Wie geitz' shout-out which led to the crying in joy) :-P
Anyway, i think these pictures don't do the show justice! Instead here's a quick video I threw together of 'The Power' and 'Rhythm is a Dancer':
It was quite fun! Even though they only had like 5 or 6 songs to perform, it was pretty entertaining. In fact they did 'Rhythm' twice at the end!
You know I'm not going to go all the way out to Macau and not get a picture with the performers!
Achan came out too, I couldn't quite explain to her before hand who Snap! was because of the language barrier, but once the songs started she recognized them.
Apparently Snap was a club favorite in Japan too. ;-)
We were quite full of 'The Power' after the show (the power being Vodka + Redbull for some apparently) so we ended up going to another club til about 5 am. Joe and I took the 7am ferry back to HK... long night! :-P
