CURRENT RATINGS:
5/10
Movie:
You may or may not have even heard of this movie.
It was straight to DVD and apparently has a somewhat checkered past. It sat in limbo for 4 or 5 years before they finally finished it and released it on DVD a few months back.
This isn't really much of a movie, more an almost random collection of fake commercials, shorts and parodies. The title comes in from the fact that they're loosely organized around the fake news site ' The Onion'... so you get a lot of that fake news flavor in some of the bits. Some are funny, some of which are in bad taste and some are just not very good.
It reminded me of the 1987 film ' Amazon Women on the Moon' quite a bit... similar random humor. A key difference is the way the seemingly random pieces eventually fit together into a somewhat unifying story line.
I was a big fan of 'The Onion' back in the day (since way back to the late 90s!), so when I saw it at the DVD store I decided to pick it up. Its not bad for some mindless laughs... Look for cameos from Stephen Seagal and Michael Bolton and a 'before they were famous' bit part by Daniel Dae Kim of 'Lost' fame (i'm guessing his part, which is one of the less funny ones, was filmed in '03...)
I'll give it a 5/10...
