I had Bukkake Udon at a restaurant with Ayako on Saturday afternoon. (Get your mind out of the gutter!)
For those not familiar, unlike the udon you get in soup, this one comes 'dry' in a bowl with an egg and some other stuff mixed in. you have a pitcher of some soy based sauce that you can 'splash'(bukkake) in...
This is opposed to some of the other Udon styles I have blogged about in the past -
Inaniwa Udon Shikoku Udon Ayako advised me not to dump the whole thing in, as it would water down the flavor of the rest of the stuff in the bowl...
It was OK, but I prefer the 'pre-splashed' type of Udon I think. ;-)
Afterwards we had to navigate the maze of over and underpasses to get to the other side of Shinjuku.
We were headed over to the much rumored 'Black Starbucks'. for some reason this is a special unique Starbucks... unfortunately on the other side of the station, which required much walking to get to.
Along the way we passed one of the frequently sighted 'black vans' that I have blogged about in the past. These are run by right wing parties in Japan. They often just drive around blaring patriotic music (ie Imperial era military stuff) but also they park in popular areas and try to... annoy people into agreeing with them.
This particular van was not so impressive. Just a regular mini-van with one guy standing on top giving a speech. The most hilarious part was when he finished. His friend standing in front there started clapping wildly in congratulations as if he had just given the best speech since MLK's "I have a Dream" speech in 1968, meanwhile the other thousand people walking past who were ignoring them continued to ignore them...
Here's the inside of the 'Black Starbucks'...
I can't figure out why it was called the blackstarbucks, it looks pretty much like every other starbucks... the only possible difference is that the mugs they use were black instead of green, but then when we ordered they gave us paper cups (white ones). Maybe they only serve the coffee black here? (I got a hot chocolate... ).
:-P Stay tuned for more Shinjuku incidents coming up. :-P
False advertising?!?
