As you may know by now, HK is getting ANOTHER big typhoon... i think this is the 3rd one since the beginning of August!
They advised people to leave work early today because they were raising the weather warning to 'T8' around 6pm, but Shan, Terence and I had to go to a Hennessy Event in Wanchai. I left around 11:30 to find no buses were running. It was quite windy, but suprisingly no rain at that time.
So I took the MTR back to TST and tried to find a taxi. One that stopped said ' there is an $80 extra charge' (highway robbery, the fare to my house from there is only about $18!)
So I decided to walk, it only takes about 20 minutes... the problem is, the fastest way home is along the waterfront.... somewhere along the way the thought occured to me 'hmm, i wonder if they ever have problems with 'storm surge' with these typhoons out here?' (since we all know, the storm surge is more dangerous than the wind or rain!)
...but we never really hear about it here, so i guess it isn't an issue here?
As soon as I saw the spray from the waves coming over the railing, i thought 'hmm, maybe i shouldn't have come this way':
i actually got sprayed a few times by seawater being blown across the entire walkway...
as you can maybe see, the waves were being driven by the strong winds and battering the seawall... but it actually wasn't raining at all...
the problem is.... i wasted too much time when I stopped to take these photos... i was about 30 seconds from the entrance of my building when it suddenly decided to start pouring rain really, really hard... i made a run for it (too windy for using an umbrella!)... by the time i got in the building i was pretty soaked. :-P
