more random pics i thought were worth sharing from my morning walking around Xiamen...
This is the Mainland China equivalent of a sanitation worker:
he has this nice tricycle w/ trash bin. He was riding up the sidewalk stopping to get garbage out of bins and pull down fliers. Very good carbon footprint!
Speaking of low emission vehicles:
this guy is something you still a lot in China (and in HK too...) a guy hauls around a cart piled high full of random stuff. in many cases its recyclables that they find and take to resell. From the looks of it this guy has cardboard and some bottles and cans.
Not a fun job... but very good for the environmentally friendly.
One more interesting vehicle:
This guy was tooling around and pulled under an overpass trying to sell phone cards. Check out his bike... its not really a bicycle actually... its a hand powered tricycle. I think the guy was paraplegic. I guess this configuration is more efficient for the open sidewalks than a regular wheelchair....
China is definitely not the most handi-capable-friendly place. Especially the buildings, etc but because of all those guys with carts and bikes hauling stuff, at least most sidewalks have ramps, etc.
One plus to the hand-crank tricycle... definitely better exercise than the 'jazzy scooter'... and better for the environment.
Speaking of recycling -
This guy was sweeping the streets as i walked by... his broomis straight up just a stick with a bunch of branches tied up to the end... definitely low carbon foot print. ;-)
on a completely non-environmentally related note:
i saw this familiar face on a sign above a store... yes that's alivenotdead.com official artist Liu Xuan... endorsing some sort of health product
