Hi,
Just to let you know that there is a review of our EP in an Australian Magazine called DRUM from my hometown city of Perth. It was written by Patrick Cavalli. I haven't got a good enough scan for you to read what it is about, so I will type it down the bottom for you.
Drum article reads:
There's a comical tongue in cheek feeling to this debut from Fire Bird International (FBI) that leaves a smile. Whether it's the juxtaposing of ironic themes and musical styles, the succint yet obvious lyrical approach or something else entirely, it is hard to say. Accidental or deliberate: probably irrelevant.
This four-piece from Hong Kong leave little to the imagination with song titles like Man Love!, Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, Gonna Make Love and Loneliness, as lyrically their West Aussie singer Cain McInerney, plays such a straight bat it's deadpan. Take autobiographical closer Don't Quit Your Day Job: where he quotes his doubters "You're very average, leave it to the pros... no matter your hopes you'll never get any hoes." Maybe it's the freedom of writing songs in a country where English isn't the first language, it's as though he's having a laugh but at the same time bearing his chip for all to see. Musically, the band also does a great job of stating the obvious. They cover a fair amount of territory and hit their mark when resembling All American Rejects and Blink 182 with tracks more likely to be favoured on home town radio stations. However, FBI are far more interesting when dark and evil in tracks Ghouls 'n' Ghosts and The Masquerade, where the band create a bit of distorted theatre to go with all the light entertainment and appear most comfortable when free to shred.Enjoying themselves the whole time, FBI could stand out from the crowd, not so much from a credible display of musical virtuosity but more so for their ability to shrug labels whilst maintaining an entertainment value immune from the pretentious.
