Last weekend was really hectic us. Three days… three shows!

We ventured to Yo-Parkon Friday night and performed for the Music Gig. The place was not packed out, but there was a decent number of people there. We were on much later than expected, which had a few side-effects. There were more people to watch the show (which is good!). But, by the time we were due to perform we had already been hanging around for a couple of hours and exhaustion from the week was creeping in (which was bad!). We had a good show, but by the end of the 30min set I felt like I was losing my voice.
Afterwards the guys performed with MEG. It felt really weird watching my band playing with someone else. I can’t help it if I feel a little bit jealous.
On Saturday night we made our way from theprefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /NewTerritoriesto Lan Kwai Fong for the LKF Beerfest. It was to be a much shorter set than the night before. We decided to play all of our fast and more energetic songs; Man Love! , Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and The Masquerade. We threw in the FBI theme song at the end for good measure.
It was a really good opportunity to showcase our music to the public. I was amazed to see a large crowd huddled together to watch us perform. People from near-by bars stopped their conversations and their heads turned in our direction as they witnessed the might of FBI. You couldn’t walk by us without stopping and watching all the commotion.
The stage was tucked in a corner of LKF near the public toilets, and Nice complained of the smell while he was playing the drums. I couldn’t smell anything over the stench of my own sweat. LOL! It was so hot; by the end of the set my clothes were soaked with sweat. The stage was super-small so we weren’t able to jump around and engage in on-stage antics. I was too worried I was going to get hit in the head with Jerald’s bass.
Despite the good feedback from the crowd and my kind words about the show, I couldn’t help thinking that we could’ve been better. We had a fun time playing at the LKF Beerfest, but it was evident that we were all super-tired and needed some rest. There was still one more show to go.
Thanks to Meg we were given the chance to play at BACKSTAGE the next day. The show at BACKSTAGE was another benefit to raise money for earthquake relief inSichuan. The MC for the night was one of the presenters from I-cable, I think his name is Roland, but I am not sure. There were lots of other performers that I couldn’t even tell you their names. The bar was packed!
The guys went on stage and performed three songs with MEG. Then, I came on afterwards and we performed two songs as FBI; Loneliness and Gonna Make Love. I know the guys really wanted to play Man Love! (because I guess it has become our go-to song) but I didn’t have the voice for it. We decided to play Gonna Make Love and it turned out to be a good choice because everyone in the crowd seemed to enjoy it.
We left the people of BACKSTAGE with a really nice taste in their mouth. We are sure that they will want to take another bite of FBI. So, we look forward to playing there again sometime in the future.
After the show some guy congratulated us and said that we were great. I told him that we were suffering from exhaustion playing three days in a row. He was amazed at my response and he said, “If that is what you guys are like exhausted…wow! (then imagine what you are like when you are not exhausted).” Later on I found out that he was a famous producer inHong Kong, or something like that.
What we can take away from the weekend is that despite everyone not being 100%, we are still able to make an impression on the audience. I guess I have high expectations of myself and therefore I am very critical of my own performance.
I am glad this weekend is over. Now we can have a good rest and start getting ready for our shows next month. We will be playing a short set at the Cavern for World Refugee Day on the 21 st of June, then we will have our 1 st Birthday party in Attache Bar in Ma On Shan on the 27 th of June. More details posted later about the show.
We will also be returning to K-town Studios in the second half of June to record three more songs for our EP.
I hope we can see you at our next show!
