JOSIE HO 何超儀: MY VERY FIRST HONG KONG INTERVIEW... IN CANNES

Last night, I was turning with nostalgia and sadness, the pages of some old issues of  "Kumite", a magazine which just disappeared (check out the Kumite is Dead entry) and realized that the first Hong Kong artist I interviewed in my life, was Josie Ho 何超儀.

It was in 2002, during the Cannes Film Festival (my first time there), after watching some short movies of the official selection (including Tai Tai 太太, a story about adultery if I remember, where she has the leading role), I went to the Hong Kong Pavillion, a place where you're supposed to find any informations related Hong Kong.  Then, somebody from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council  told me that Josie Ho was in Cannes, in a restaurant just in front of the Palais. I thought he was kidding, but no, and he took me to the place.

Josie Ho and the director Nicholas Chin, the cinematographer Charlie Lam林志堅, and the actors Jimmy Wong 黃家諾and Conroy Chan陳子聰were eating when I arrived, so I was a bit embarassed. But finally everybody were very cool and nice with me. I sat and talk with them and I did Josie's interview in the restaurant (I was working with a MD at that time).

After that, I took some pictures and the interview was published in "Kumite" one year and a half later (!) back to back with my preview article about Twins Effect 千機變, a movie which was supposed to be released in France in 2003 and was finally delayed until ...the end of 2007! You can check out all the Tai Taistills and the Cannes pictures in the photo album HERE.

"Kumite" was published every three months, and at that time (2002 & 2003), there were only 36 pages (then, it became 68), so if we couldn't put all our articles, we had to wait for another issue. "Twins Effect" was delayed because the previous distribution compagny who owned the rights of the movie, bankrupted or something. So the movie release was frozen for a few years. Then, it was picked up by another company...
