The editorial policy of “ Kumite” (a quaterly French magazine specialized in Asian cinema - I’m writing in it since 2002) changed radically with this n°34 issue. Apparently, the head(s) of the magazine’s company say(s) something like “ ”.
And since this company ( Seven Sept) is also now releasing in DVD in France the fantasy Hong Kong action movies Twin Effects (2003) & Twins Effect 2 (2004), that’s why we have not less than 18 pages about those movies in this issue - front and back covers included ! – which means, 25% of the magazine.
Yau Nai-hoi's Eye in the Sky (2007) Anyway, it was a good opportunity for me to dig up my short interviews of cast members Edison Chen & Charlene Choi, done on the set of the first movie in November 2002. But the more interesting are the ones I made recently with Bey Logan (producer of Twins Effect & legendary Hong Kong movies expert) and Dante Lam (co-director of Twins Effects). All the other articles about Twins Effect 1 & 2 (reviews & biographies of the cast & crew ) were written by “Kumite” chief-editor, Charles Ferragut.
Yudai Yamaguchi's Cromartie High School (2005) My other articles in this issue are :
*A 2-page interview of Hong Kong diretor Yau Nai-hoi, made in Udine during the 9th Far East Film (April 2007), where he talked about his work as a screenwriter for Johnnie To and about his directorial debut, Eye in the Sky (French theatrical release this month). *A 4-page interview of wild genius cinematographer Christopher Doyle, done during his tribute by the festival Paris Cinema, in July 2007. *An article about Cromartie High School (from the manga to the movie) + one page interview of Japanese director Yudai Yamaguchi ( Battlefield Baseball, Cromartie High School : The movie, both released in France by WE Productions)
