Since the beginning of 2004, all the short documentaries that I made about Asian cinema (more than 100) were released in DVD in France as extra features. Among them, only two were released in other countries.
The first one, Fast and Dangerous, which contains an interview of director Andrew Lau, was released in France first, in 2005, on the French edition of Legend of Speed, and then in South America in 2007, on the Brazilian edition ( Desafio no Asfalto) and the Mexican edition ( La Leyenda de la Velocidad) of the same movie. On the three editions, the documentary was the same. Only the subtitles changed.
The case of my documentary about Infernal Affairs III is different. Featuring interviews of director Andrew Lau, director and screenwriter Alan Mak, screenwriter Felix Chong, and actors Anthony Wong, Chapman To & Kelly Chen, Vorher und Nachher, which was released since October 25th, 2007 by the German company , is actually an alternative and re-edited version compared to the French version (L'Avant et l'Après) released by one year earlier. On the technical level, Vorher und Nachher is in 2.35 letterbox ( L'Avant et l'Après was in 1.85 widescreen), and one answer related to the French audience was cut, but the main difference is the soundtrack. For the French version, the music of the French band Meeting Quotations was used (a big thanks to them!), because I was not allowed to use the original soundtrack of the movie. For Vorher und Nachher, things changed and I could get the permission to use the original music of Infernal Affairs III composed by Chan Kwong-Wing.
