I think the last time I wrote for a magazine was a year ago, maybe more. All the magazines specialized in Asian cinema, that I worked for previously (“ Kumite”, “ Asia Pulp”, “ Mad Asia”...) are not published anymore. But recently, I had the opportunity to write for the first time for “ Climax”, a monthly magazine specialized mostly in action cinema, and generally in popular cinema.
For this month issue, I was asked to write a big article on John Woo’s new movie, Red Cliff ( Les 3 Royaumes in French, which means The Three Kingdoms) and some short articles related to the director or his movie (So I wrote also about Terence Chang’s work, Daniel Lee’s The Three Kingdoms: Ressurection of the Dragon, Alexi Tan’s Blood Brothers & Detour).
In my Red Cliffarticle, I basically talked about all the process of the movie’s production since 2005. It’s not really a review but I give my opinion a little bit at the end. I talked only about the 2-part 4h40 Asian version, because when I wrote the article, there wasn’t any press screening of the 2h25 international version yet.
Next March, I’ll have the chance go to Hong Kong to cover the Hong Kong Filmart ( March 23 rd– 26 th) for “Climax”. Also, I don’t know if I’ll be able to attend the opening of the HKIFF, so I’m considering staying in Hong Kong a litlle longer after the Filmart cos’ I really want to see The Shinjuku Incident!PS: You can watch the scans of the new issue of “Climax” here :http://www.climaxmag.fr/
