I learned yesterday that one of my best friends, Jin Ly , passed away. Her body was found in prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /Paris’ Seine river two days ago. Her drowning was apparently an accident while she was alone after a boat party last Saturday. She was 31.

Jin grew up in Seoul, and left for Paris in 1999 where she lived without documentation. She learned French by herself. She directed " Trans# : Working Title ", an experimental road movie/docu-fiction inspired by her own life and experiences and shot in Korean, French and English. She filmed herself travelling and meeting people from South Korea to Paris and back, via Beijing and other places. This self-financed DIY movie was selected in 2008 in a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival (L'ACID- an association for the release of indie movie).
