Following the unlikely success of growing a Mo for Movember last year, I've now decided to shave my head bald in solidarity and support for children who have cancer. I recently read an account of one child's battle, and as a new father it made the earth turn backwards.
Through this event organised by St Baldrick's FoundationI hope to help create more awareness and raise critical funds for childhood cancer research. And in this case the money raised in Hong Kong will stay in Hong Kong for projects based here through the Children's Cancer Foundation.
If you'd like to show some support, please check out my page at the St Baldrick's website - http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/JayFC - where you can see more details and make a quick and easy online donation. Or alternatively just drop me a line and make a pledge. And if you're around on May 29th, come down to the Aberdeen Boat Club to witness the mass shearing...
Either way, if nothing else please spare a thought for these children and pass this info on to others.
Many thanks for your support!
Jay FC
Each year, 160,000 children are diagnosed with cancer worldwide. To date, over 135,000 volunteers have shaved their heads in solidarity with kids fighting cancer at more than 3,500 events in 25 countries. The St. Baldrick's Foundation funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organisation except the U.S. government, more than $12 million in 2009 alone and almost $42 million since 2005.
