Hey y'all,
Don't know if you've seen this:
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ-t-ISUKn4 I really love it.
First of all it's my favorite song in my favorite concert done by the King.
Let me give you a brief insight on the concert, a piece of information that is vital to your knowledge of the history of rock n' roll.
Elvis Presley was tied down to a movie contract in the 50's that went on till the end of the 60's. He made around 30 motion pictures.. which were good to start off with.. but then they all became very similar and lost their touch towards the end of the 60's. This in combination with the rise of other rock n' roll acts such as the beatles and the monkees meant that the king was losing his throne. So back in Memphis, NBC held this TV special.. called the 68 COMEBACK SPECIAL.. and it would be the first time Elvis would perform for a live crowd in 10 years. There were 2 parts.. a stand up live show part.. and a sit down part where he would sit down and basically jam his old hits with his original band members and close friends, and the audience would sit around him in a circle. The show was Elvis's claim to the throne again. From then on he started touring with a new band, and he toured for the next 10 years until his passing.
It is my dream concert to have something like the sit down part in the 68 comeback special. Just a bunch of guys sitting in a circle with guitars, and a drummer hitting on not drums but a guitar case.. and the whole setting is fun and informal. Me and my seefu Mr. Sam Hui always pretend we're doing this concert in my lessons, and we go through the whole songlist, also saying all the punchlines that Elvis said inbetween songs.. yes we're that crazy about it!
Long live the KING.
