I have met so many people who ended up studying accounting because it's a reliable career when their passion was in the arts. Personally - I think that being being an artist requires full attention and focus and that is also why I get concerned when the economics of the art world lead to it being only performable as a hobby or as a purely commercial venture.
If you are an artist who is just entering college and being forced by parents or culture to study something other than the arts, this is my advice:
Study marketing. It's a conservative enough career and it's something that every artist would do very well to understand and will eventually have to use as a skill set for their own careers.
Just something I've suggested enough times that I figured I'd suggest it globally.
