Today I'm going to write about one of those outstanding days that seem to happen to me much more often than I probably deserve. These are the kinds of experiences that when I go back to UK and tell some of my oldest friends, they generally look at me like I have just taken a 2 year course in bullshitting and passed with flying colours. In any case I have photographic proof this time! This was a day of low-flying around the incredible skyline of Hong Kong in a beautiful bright red helicopter! And my pilot? None other than celebrity pilot and actor in more than 70 Hong Kong movies, Michael Wong Man-tak! As you can imagine it was quite a day. I'll let the photos do most of the talking. First of all, this is what a helicopter looks like from the inside: Pretty incredible right? My famous pilot, the ever charming and friendly Michael Wong Man-tak: Hong Kong as it looks like from the low heights that a helicopter can fly at: This is a Hong Kong you almost never get to see, except in postcardsPretty breathtaking no? On our way out to greener pastures, Michael looks down at the sea and says "hey, let's land on that rock!""Are you crazy?" I'm thinking in my head. But my manners and the fact this is Michael Wong are holding me back from saying that and instead I manage a weak "are you sure that's a good idea?". "It'll be fine" responds Michael with his charming smile, that somehow fails to put me at ease this time and down we go towards the rock in the middle of the water: And suddenly we've landed and it's all fine and I'm laughing at how amazing it is that we can just land on a rock in the middle of the sea! So out I jump to take some photos: Doesn't the 'copter look amazing? Then it's off again to fly over our next destination... the Big Buddha!!!Sadly my camera and photography skills were inadequate to catch a really good picture of it, but you can still make him out pretty clearly at the top of the hill. What an unbelievable experience to be seeing the Big Buddha from above and not even that far aboveAfter that, it was up to the top of Lantau Peak, the tallest mountain in Hong Kong. Shrouded in mist, it was pretty beautiful up there, seeming as if there was nothing but the mountain, as the rest of HK disappeared in clouds and mist. Although you can't see it in the photo, it was incredible how many hikers were right up there at the top of the peak. Because it is a pretty steep decline on either side, it looked rather like they could topple off the mountain at any point, scary....Finally we decided to end up the day on an awesome boat with lunch, sunshine and a few friends, but rather than park the helicopter back at the base, much like the rock in the middle of the sea, Michael just flew the 'copter out to the boat and landed it right there! This must be one of the most surreal sights I've ever seen outside of a movie screen!!! Another crazy day in the life of Spencer! Look forward to sharing the next one.
