The Hollywood Dream.....well documented...aspiring actors and actresses (is this gender incorrectness?) make that journey to the Boulevard of Broken Dreams in hopes that they have that something special, that something that sets them apart from everyone else.
What does that road look like today?
The journey starts (for American purposes) in some little shithole city somewhere in the middle of bum fxxk no where. Some where the seed was planted....maybe they win the county Carp Festival Beauty Pagent, local charity dance marathon or were the lead in the local high school production.
Maybe, just maybe, a production used their hometown as a set or base....
And they come to believe that they too, just might have that chance at the brass ring....so, they come by the thousands.
As the song goes....."...I rode in on a Greyhound, I'll be walking out if I go..."
so maybe Mom and Dad plunk down the money for the ticket and they sit and wait for the stretch limo to arrive......
Now you know your on the budget route when they can't even finish painting the bus...or change the destination sign to LA.....Greyhound, the tired old lady of the highway....
And off they go looking for Mecca!
But it's not in Hollywood.
they get to see the land of the American Dream.....
Stopping in one hell hole after another.....
The first audition......acting like a citizen.....
The luxurious rest facilities of Indio,CA.....a total service transit point......at least they still have a depot...
with attentative service staff....
....but somewhere a lost connection....I ran outta...
and so they herd them onto the next bus westbound toward anypoints west.......
and finally the signs of civilization.......
and suddenly they discover that the bus doesn't go all the way there......
Dumped on the east side of LA......surface buses......
And finally a sign that you are entering LA proper.....crossing the LA river on the period piece bridges....the backdoor in.....
But you ain't there yet......modernization now gives us the Metro System! Which starts at......
the excitement builds as they realize they are closer, but moreso farther away from whence they came....
and it could be at the end of the hall.......dream on.....
The Metro Red Line is the direct line to the Boulevard of Broken Dreams......and consistent with dreams are all the illusions.....
aaaahh LA, seemed too much for the man....
