For those of you who have visited us in HK, we’ve probably taken you to a shop called G.O.D as it’s one of our main stops on the Briannie HK Tour. G.O.D as in the phonetic sound of the Cantonese slang “to live better” not God as in Hallelujah praise the lord, is in my opinion one of the best shops in HK. Their clever designs are a mix of old traditional Hong Kong with a new contemporary twist. Sure you can find cheesy souvenirs of Hong Kong all over the markets in HK but, your chances of finding the same piece in Canal St in New York to JJ market in Bangkok are pretty high anyway. The products from G.O.D are not the kind of items you’ll probably put in a box tucked away in the back of your closet after your trip. ie: Chinese fan, tea cups with dragons on it, Chinese slippers that make your feet sweat, silk Chong Sam Chun-Li dress that your girlfriend doesn’t want to wear around the house for you while serving you, that Bruce Lee neck-tie…you know you’ve got one of these at home.
This year, G.O.D has collaborated with Starbucks Coffee to design part of their new shop on Duddell Street in Central called “A Flashback to Nostalgic 1950s-60s-70s Hong Kong”
Now I know what you’re thinking, Starbucks is probably not the first place you go to when you visit Hong Kong but, in this case, you might want to make an exception. It’s like the all-black McDonald’s in Milan, you just can’t resist to take a picture!
Good job to Ben & Douglas of G.O.D
