Carrying on traditions is an important part of Wushu, to past on the teachings to the next generation. Keith is my eldest CalWushu Student from generation one..........help me get CalWushu and Cal Taiji started..........he has since studied Wushu with me and trained extensively with Corey....who is the head of Kei Lun Martial Arts..........Keith I am happy to say has continued to past the traditions down in his family. A week ago, I performed with the Soohoo Clan at Mckinley School in Brisbane..............last time we performed there it was big brother, Andres under the lion....this year his younger brothers performed too......and Keith played the music.......I did the Wushu........three generations! Good job Keith!
Team Soohoo........Andres, Alden and Austin!
Three generations of my students continuing the lion dance tradition.
Wushu is more than just a set of moves....though sometimes modern wushu forgets this.....it is in fact a set of traditions and knowledge that reaches back thousands of years into the history and culture of the Chinese People. The Martial Artist in addition to performing and competing need to continue to teach and past on the art of Wushu. Indeed this is important to remember in light of the IWUF asking for suggestions on how wushu should develop.......something that is purely for performance, lacking any connection to its past, and no connection to the history and culture of China........well something I hope people will weigh in on and tell China what they want to see.......Wushu since the end of the Olympics is at a crossroads........either it will change direction to become a more mass sport go it will just be something practiced by a few elite athletes.
Well, change is coming........time for me to head out to class.
