Friday you will recall I was suppose to be in LA for the beginning of Disney and Tiger Claw's Elite Championships.........well the response was small so I decided to continue lion dancing. Just a short note........people if you don't compete these events will disappear! I realize that there is a lot of resistance to entering tournaments that are perceived to be part of a Karate tournament. But please remember these events use each discipline's own rules and judges......we are not getting Joe Black Belt to judge your form. This was the way it was when I use to compete......the judges would tell me at the end that had no idea how to judge wushu forms. All the judges are qualified wushu judges that we have used at CMAT and other wushu events. Disney's bottom line is show me some numbers and we will invest money to help you promote your event. Though I will have to admit Disney could have made the event more attractive if they continued to offer discounts to Disneyland like they did last year.........half price!! Anyway, people we need to represent.......next event that I will be at will be in Santa Clara at RDK's Ultimate Internationals on May 24.......be there!! There will be two parts to this event.......the Tiger Claw Elite, and a regular Chinese Wushu Tournament as part of the RDK event........for those who don't qualify for the Elites or just want to compete in other events. The struggle to make wushu mainstream is not easy.....if you consider NBL and NASKA have thousands of competitors all over the country......wushu has it's work cut out for itself.
Anyway, we got booked to do a Lion Dance tor Thorogood Marshall Academic High School in the morning........we opened the Chinese Club's New Year Celebration.........we got a great response from the kids......the audiences favorite was again Kei Lun's Junior Golden Lion.......I was the Buddha for this event. I watched about half of the School's CNY program......and they did a great job....a little Chinese and Vietnamese Dancing, Hip Hop,some skits, and some awesome piano playing.......well we had to head for lunch so we went off to South San Francisco. We enjoyed dim sum at Grand Palace Seafood Restaurant.........but I learned that you don't order the chow mein.....but get it from the cart....that's made just right with egg noodles fried with just a little oil........if you order, you get it made with spaghetti noodles...too oily and overcooked! Everything else was good...Ha Gow and Siu Mai.......and the Nai Wang Buns were excellent! After lunch it was on to the Mendleson House in San Francisco Downtown.......it is a senior Home Facility that we have performed for for many years......Corey knows the people running it and so Kei Lun gets invited every year....again Seniors are very appreciative. Again, if you haven't guessed Alec and Austin dancing the Junior Lion was the hit of our show............they had to dance almost a full half an hour...as every senior had to feed the lion and pet it for good luck.........the cute factor is irresistable! Great job guys!! so ends our second week of lion dancing.....I'm all Buddha and gonged out.........ok cya!
