Practicing Baguazhang

In our second session with Master Yang, he discussed the importance of theory and application.  First he mentioned that not everyone is so inclined, so they may be more interested in form practice.  But for high level practioners its important to know how and why we practice something.      Generally, being soft and continuous is important requisite to higher practice, then one has to learn how to be both soft and hard in the form.....generally soft on the defense hard on the attack.  If you cannot fajing correctly you cannot actually link your movements together.  Real kung-fu has a springy feeling to it...not like Taiji in this respect.  In fact, Taiji has had to separate this out into different forms.....eg. Chen has Set one and PaoChui, Yang has the 108 form and the fast form.  Turns out Ben is excellent at understanding how the form should look, and Michael can really generate the power.......without the understanding one will have a hard time mastering the form.

In the meantime we are waiiting for Glenn to arrive, and we will have a afternoon workout at three. We are going to watch the wushu kids work out......Alex did good yesterday as he demonstated the back sweep.  Practice today for them will be with Kevan's Wushu Coach.....Liu Ching Hua.  Ok off to practice, cya all!!
