I'm usually not into parties but this one was great. The thing that made it great was that it wasn't like a clubbing atmosphere. One, there were live bands instead of that techno/house shit. Second, instead of that whole "everyone stand around nodding their heads becasue the music is too loud and the place is too packed" scenario, this was a more casual and relaxed environment. In between bands, we actually were able to carry a conversation.
Pat was nice enough to introduce Sara and I to everyone and I met this dude who's quite possibly the most bad ass person in the city. Get this...he teaches Film Studies at a Chinese university by day, and by night he's a guitar player. So he's rock and roll and a film buff. All he needs is NBA knowledge and he's officially the raddest man in Hong Kong. We were talking about Johnnie To films...he said he was showing Too Many Ways To Be No 1 to his class because of the unique narrative structure and the infamous upside-down-camera shot. I asked him if he was showing PTU and he was like "Of course man!"
PTU...the first and only film noire in Hong Kong film history. That should be required viewing for any film student in Asia.
We also met this girl who worked at NBA Hong Kong. Funny. Pat, her and I were talking about Lakers/Rockets like it was still a series. Two hours later Yao Ming goes out with a broken ankle.
Man just disband that team. Their window is done.
