david stern with his nba fashion issues

this is a great, compelling read from the wall street journalabout this rich kid in china who, while driving recklessly in his ugly ass rice rocket, accidentally hit and killed an overachieving poor kid.

this story became a net sensation in China because of multiple reasons:

1: pictures of the rich kid's friends smoking and joking around at the scene of the accident, while the dead body was still on the floor, surfaced on the net, pissing off the netizens.

2: the cops initially reported the driver was driving at a slow speed and no modifications were made to his car. after eyewitnesses begged to differ, the cops held a second press conference and announced they made a mistake--the kid actually drove twice the speed and his engine was modified in the typical stupid "AzN rice rockets" way (Clint Eastwood said it best in Gran Torino: "don't ever put a stupid giant fin on the back of your stupid rice rocket, like them Asians".  No one was offended by the endless racist jokes made by Eastwood in Gran Torino cause they were the truth.)

people think the cops were trying to cover up for the rich kid initially.

3: the poor hates the rich, and the rich/poverty divide in China is huge. even if the rich kid didn't have idiot lowlife friends, even if he didn't drive a stupid rice rocket, he was going to get ethered by net bloggers anyways.

I can't say I'm not guilty of this. With me being screwed by my former boss (publisher of Beats and owner of Play, Xuan Mu) lately, I've developed a bitter dislike of rich, socialite kids who basically have had their entire "careers " paid for by parents too.

But as I'm hating I know I'm wrong. Because really, all parents wants to provide the best possible life for their kids, and if the kids end up being spoiled twats, sometimes it's due to no fault of the parents or the family.  There are going to be good people and there are gonna be lowlives no matter background, race, country of origin, or if they drive a normal car or stupid rice rockets.

I'm ranting again. And this is another sensitive topic. But read the Wall Street Journal piece. It's a great, great read.

Damn this blog got fucking political, eh? I promise I'll go back to blogging about light and fun shit soon enough. And I'm not blogging all serious on purpose, it's just what I've been reading about lately. And what I been reading about lately is stickups and killings, kidnappings, projects bulidings, drug dealings, the bigger the cap the bigger the peeling.

The bigger the cap, the bigger the peelin'

Come through, something ill, missin' the ceilin'

What influenced my raps? Stick ups and killings

Kidnappings, project buildings, drug dealings

Criticize that, why is that?

Cuz Nas rap is compared to legitimized crap

Cuz we love to talk about ass we gettin'

Most intellectuals will only half listen

So you can't blame jazz musicians

Or David Stern with his NBA fashion issues

Oh I they like me--in my white tee

You can't ice me, we here for life B

On my second marriage, hip hop's my first wifey

(This is such a brilliant verse by Nas. I especially love the David Stern reference. Because really, you can't blame David Stern for putting the dress code on the league and effectively ending the "hip hop look" of the league. It's not because Stern hates Black culture. It's not because Stern hates hip hop. It's because Stern wants business.)
