the room is on fire and she's fixing her hair

A few notes...

1:I was just at the Wanchmost of the night. Caught this band Don't Panic--THEY WERE AMAZING. Buncha older dudes rocking out--Lead singer kinda resembles Steven Tyler. Drummer is bad ass. Bassist looks like a rock version of John C. Riley. They billed themselves as a classic rock cover band, and it was mostly accurate--in between the Stones, the Bowies, the Dylans, the Pink Floyds, they snuck in songs by The Killers and Nickleback. I'm kinda disgusted at that....cause Nickleback sucks and The Killers are okay but they're kinda gay (literally and figuratively. Brendan Flowers is really a homosexual and the band gets in all these stupid petty catty feuds).

They also played some Foo Fighters, which also isn't classic rock, I guess. But Foo Fighters is about 28 levels above The Killers. Learn to Fly is ace. Song got me a bit emotional. But I've been acting like Brendan Flowers as of late, must apologize.

Anyway, they were so good and the crowd was into it--felt like a rock show almost. Maybe I shouldn't complain about lack of rock gigs in HK, because I can get some Stones and Dylan just 5 minutes walk from my house. I dunno why I don't hang at The Wanch more, it's a fucking awesome place.

By the way, BEATS will be having a Beats night at the Wanch sometime this month. I don't know when and I don't know who's playing, but that's cause we're unorganized like that. Oh wait, my boss AND my Editor have read my blog, maybe I shouldn't... OH YEAH I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

2:Every time I watch a rock show I fantasize and wish I was in a rock band. Must be the greatest feeling in the world to play music in front of a packed crowd and have people hanging onto every word. I especially love those moments when the crowd knows the song so well they sing it for the band. Think Don't Look Back In Anger, Everlong, Good Riddance, Flake, etc.

I'd like to take a minute and list my all time dream jobs, both the "fantasy ones" and the "realistic ones". I think fantasy dream jobs are pretty self explainatory--they're jobs that you'd fantasize doing but they're kinda unattainable.

In this order, my fantasy dream jobs are 1: rock and roll guitarist 2: NBA player 3:rock and roll drummer 4: none. 5: none.

I left 4 and 5 blank because I really can't think of anything that can come close to the thrill of being a live performer. Imagine the adrenaline and rush you get of playing an iconic guitar riff or hitting a crucial jump shot in front of thousands and thousands of screaming fans. You can't get that feel from any other profession.

It always baffles me when I watch reality TV shows like America's Next Top Model and I hear how people have "dreamt of being a model". Really? Your fantasy dream job is to stand around and look pretty? That's weaksauce. I know there are plenty of models on Alivenotdead and I may have just offended a few but OH YEAH I DON'T GIVE A FUCK.

Now moving onto realistic dream jobs. These are jobs that I may actually be able to get one day. So in order here they are...1: Sportswriter, preferably strictly basketball. 2: Music journalist 3: Film writer/critic 4: Film editor (not editing words but editing film) 5: Owner of a small bookshop/record shop/movie shop (just so I can be a snob like Jack Black in High Fidelity and look down on those with weak taste)

3: I read this moving storytonight about Pixar fulfilling a dying girl's wish. Basically the girl wanted to see UP but was too sick to see it in the theaters, so Pixar sent her a DVD. She died shortly after.

Speaking of UP, I have a feeling this will be easily, the best film of the summer. Although that's not saying much because this has been the weakest summer of movies in years (The Dark Knight and Iron Man is about 7 levels better than anything that's been out so far). Terminator 4 was underwhelming, Star Trek is great but still can't measure up to last year's TDK or even Iron Man, Wolverine was fun, but stupid. And Transformers 2, I ain't even seen yet, will suck ass. I KNOW FOR A FACT TRANSFORMERS WILL SUCK because Michael Bay is a horrible director who thinks every girl should be a big titted Czech model and every action scene needs shaking cameras, 360 degree camera pans and explosions galore.

I've heard several people say they can't wait for Transformers 2 recently and I gave them a "wtf?" look.

Anyway, UP, a story about an old man tying 1000 balloons to his house to lift it off the ground, is going to be the best movie this summer.

The original reasoning--it has since been changed--for the old man wanting to lift his house was because he wanted to join his deceased wife in the sky. When I read that that shit moved me. But Pixar realized that's a bit too grim so they changed the reasoning for the "UPing". I won't spoil it. Just watch the movie, it's gonna be amazing.

Public Enemies don't look too bad too. Depp vs Bale, directed by Michael Mann...has potential. Although Miami Vice was trash.
