George Lucas filmed a documentary entitled "Filmaker" on Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rain People" (1968). - Another 9 years till Star Wars: A New Hope .  Steven Spielberg directed an episode of "Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law" (1971) - Another 4 years till JAWS .James Cameron was an unlisted crew member of Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979) (production assistant) (uncredited) - Another 5 years till Terminator .Although, at 25, they were still ahead of me. I guess I have between 4 - 9 years for a kick ass idea. But if the following young directors are any indication...

Zack Snyder directed his first feature Playground (1990) at 24. - 15 years later, he made 300 .

Bryan Singer directed his first feature Lion's Den (1988) at 23. - 12 years later, he made X-Men .Brett Ratner directed his first feature Whatever Happened to Mason Reese (1990) at 21. - 8 years later, he made Rush Hour .Hhmm, right now I feel like Homer in " The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace".
