I'm gearing up to return to Shanghai in about a month. The plan is to stay there the whole summer. While film endeavors are here, there, everywhere, and nowhere all at once (people in the business know what I'm talking about), I have been busying myself as of late in planning for something new, something...FREXH. Yes, that's Frexh as in Fresh. The X is a play on the Chinese word for fresh: 新鲜.I was inspired back in the Fall by PaperDoll (yes, that's their AnD page), an NYC band I am familiar with who asked me how they might be able to bring their act out to China. I've been following them for awhile, they are starting to gain a foothold on the indie music scene here in the area, and I felt that maybe a Chinese audience would be just the thingthese guys should get in front of. After all, China is all about new things right now.Little by little, I found myself tinkering around with an idea and the next thing I knew, I was in charge of FREXH 2010: a showcase of emerging talents in the areas of music, fashion, food & beverage, and art. FREXH is going down in early August in Shanghai during the World Expo and as of now, we have aggregated a collection of fine talent whoI am extremely excited about. In addition to PaperDoll on the music scene, fellow AnD artist Kelly Cha is in the lineup. We'll have a couple of live DJs and maybe another music act or two. There will also be a fashion show with some of today's hottest emerging designers from both the States and from China. We plan on having a food and beverage tasting along with an art exhibition of a Vietnamese artist and Shanghainese artist as well.FREXH promises to be fun and informative festival format that I hope people within earshot will attend! And yes, Alive not Dead figures to be a part of all of this as well!A website is imminent with all the details. I'll try to keep a "production" blog about FREXH on here as we go. It's taking shape now and I'm really excited to see what comes of it. For now, check out the FaceBook page and join us!
