I always find that kind of stuff more interesting to look at than the overproduced photoshop wizardry that you posted recently. I guess I like ambiance more than flashy stuff. Now if I could find myself some abandoned creepy place around here...
These have a really retro feel--late 70s early 80s. I find it interesting that in the past year or 2, designers and photographers are seeing that era with a new eye. For so long, it was seen as incredibly uncool. Now that enough time has passed, we are judging it with a new eye, we are finding a lot of visual interest in that era. Perhaps it was the last era in fashion and design that had a distinct identity. This was before everything became "vintage". Of course, in a few years time, we will be able to distinguish the unique style characteristics of the recent "vintage" era, once we have experienced the next paradigm shift and moved on to something distinct.
There was an important book about style and taste written by an art historian in the late 80s or early 90s. It talked about taste as a historical phenomenon. I read a lot of interesting reviews of the book (it was huge in art history at the time it came out), but I never had time to read the book itself. I wonder if I could still find it? I haven't a clue who the author was or the title of the book. Does anyone know?
