There is a statistic about phones that shows, in the USA anyway, that if you don't use a feature on your mobile phone in the first three days, you probably never will. So many gadgets these days are loaded with more features than we really need or even pay attention too. Cameras are not exempt from this, especially those innocent looking point-and-shoots.

No trip to Shenzhen is complete without a jaunt across the border to Hong Kong. If I'm going to be honest though, Hong Kong would be a lonely place for me were it not for AliveNotDead.com. The truth is, everyone of my friends in HK is a result of AnD. Don't forget, I've never lived there. For me, it all began with Mark Moran, but it has morphed into a great circle of creative and dynamic friends that continues to grow every time I visit.
As a favor to Jesse Warren, I hopped on a plane and flew down to Shenzhen to shoot the 2009 China Surf Open. Jesse has probably done more than anyone to promote the sport of surfing in Shenzhen and he put in a ton of time and effort to organize the event. Though I was a bit nervous about this exhibition, everything went extremely well. During the opening, more than 60 people showed up and hundreds passed through during the weekends. Considering how tucked away the gallery is, and that it has no signage yet, I think that marks a success. Well, it finally happened, just not quite how I expected it. Last week, a gallery owner and artist that I know called me and said, "So, you want to have a solo exhibition?" To which I replied, "Absolutely! When?" That's when he let me know I had a week to get it ready. So much to do already and so much still remains undone. Last year, winter in Beijing punished the kid in me. Month after month of cold and wind without any white stuff to show for it. The one day it did snow, I was in India. So when it snowed in Beijing this month, I finally got to go out with my camera and grab some shots.
Although my intent was to go around Hohai, I quickly came to my senses and settled on the Temple of Heaven. So without any further gilding of the lily, here's the goods. Enjoy.
