I am SICK of bullshit content and the people who produce it. Today on the mid-afternoon radio show:Twenty-something girl is in love with boy. They can't be together. (Brain gag.) Girl has a
one-nighter with boy's high school friend and gets pregnant. Boy still
cares for girl out of "something even greater than romantic love." (Brain puke.) Girl's mother freaks out and says "how can you bring shame to our
family like this?" Girl wants abortion because she has absolutely, absolutely, double-absolutely, triple-absolutely no way out.
Boy wants to help girl avoid this even though it's not his baby. Girl says I have to do this. Boy says you must be strong and I will stand by your side. Girl says again, I have to do this. Boy says again you must be strong and I will stand by your side. And so on, and so on. At this point, I really did puke a little in my mouth and had to stop listening.Hong Kong radio stories haven't changed in the last forty years. And forty years ago, the stories hadn't changed since feudal times when Confucius was still walking the Middle Kingdom. Why do Hong Kong writers like these recurring themes of forbidden love, weak women who fall helpless when knocked up, and uneducated "see lai" mothers who nag instead of help?99.2% of the women I know are sexually liberated (sorry, Grandma. I love you but you didn't make the cut on this one). They choose who they want
to fall in love with as well as who they sleep with. (Heaven forbid), let's say Jenny becomes pregnant. She can take
care of herself and her baby. Why? Because Jenny's a fuking banker at
Goldman making more each year than the whole stupid radio station that put this smut on
the air. And Jenny's mom (yes, she is Chinese) would not chastise her daughter but would offer gentle support and encouragement instead. OH WAIT!!! How could I forget? Jenny wouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place because sexually liberated, young people these days know how to use birth control when they fck.To the folks out there who's writing this shit -- you are doing a disservice to the listeners of Hong Kong as well as to the young women living here. Grow up and start writing stuff that is more relevant to our times!(Thankfully, most people still listening to traditional radio these days are grandma and her friends.)Dez
