A family of geckos has been living in my kitchen for awhile. Although I was terrified of geckos as a kid (mainly b/c adults would spook me with ridiculous tales of how they crawl into your ear at night and detach their tails in your ear canal), I have grown to like them b/c (i.) of the Geico insurance ads from the US; and (ii.) geckos do good by eating mosquitoes and other insects.I hadn't seen a gecko for awhile. I figured it's been cold and they've been sleeping. (Do geckos hibernate like snakes?) Unfortunately, I woke up this morning and found a baby gecko dead in my kitchen sink. In search of food in my sink catch, he had gotten stuck in the rubber gasket covering the metal basket that prevents food waste from going into the drainage system.I felt terrible and gave him a proper burial by putting him in a plastic hot sauce bottle that I had just cleaned for recycling.RIP, Mr. Gecko. Wish you the best on your journey.Dez
