I finished recently some graphics for
FINDS restaurant in TST and this gave the idea to paint something
longer, bigger than a usual painting and on many surfaces. It also
happen that a youth center on Cheung Chau launched an action of wall
painting so I proposed them a 50 meters mural. From the beginning of
2011 every morning I'm going to paint it.
Behind the wall I've chosen there is a
playground and the main Cheung Chau beach with a view on Hong Kong
Island. Every weekend thousands of peoples are coming to enjoy walks,
water sports, seafood – it brings a atmosphere of relax and well
being. In this context I thought about painting something about sea
and fishes however I didn't wanted to speak in a childish and cute
way about how beauty is the nature and how beauty is the world
because it's sounds like 5 seconds exaltation that end up once you
open your eyes and look what is really happening around. Moreover the
50 meters invite to play rather with a story that people discover
when walking along than a pattern with no direction.
Fishes...fishes...fishes...fish bones ? And this is what is
happening. There is the beauty of the nature that disappear in our
mouths consumed when talking and laughing with friends around the
table. It's a story about life and death that are interrelated and in
the case of the Ocean is the human playing the main death role. We
might speak about being nature lovers but it's not changing our
relation of predator regarding it.
The part with fishes is well done yet
and everybody enjoys it pointing at the 3 dimensional fish eyes. What
will happen once I'll finish the part with fish bones and dead eyes
we will see by this week. If you are around have a look in real since
many of the 3D details are better to be discover in 3D world.
Also if you know somebody that would like to comission a big mural
painting elsewhere let me know I would love to do more of them.
Finally about the title. The title is a
citation from Nirvana's song “Something in the way” that goes :
“it's ok eat fish cause they don't have any feeling”. I like the
irony and a kind of fake excuse for the fact that in overall we need
to kill animals in order to live.
Welcome to the art jungle !
