post-typhoon gardening

The balcony got wrecked during the last few typhoons. The terracotta planters we had suffered the most ... 2" thick and completely split by wind knocking the trees around.

Weather has been semi-stable so decided to bring the gardeners over and swap out the damaged pots, repair a few of the more sorry looking palm trees and chuck some flowers into the bigger pots to try and help retain water (the sun is drying out the soil really quickly).

Work in progress:

Am I old enough to own a green-house? Certainly un-trendy enough. The ultimate status symbol in Hong Kong is not yachts nor sports cars ... we're talking lawn-mowers baby.

All ganja jokes aside, I miss the smell of summer lawns and autumn bonfires when I lived in the UK & Canada. Rancid stinking tofu, bus exhausts and dried seafood just don't bloody come close.

When can you come over, I have the cure for your nostalgia? My yard looks like a jungle because of how wet it has been in North Carolina the past few months. The grass is also about knee high. There are some bushes that need trimming and the patio is full of dead leaves and pine straw (If you're not from the southeastern US, you won't even know what this is--the pine needles that fall from the Loblolly pines and blanket the lawn, the patio, the driveway, the street, the gutters). All right, now time to reminisce, there is work to do! :-)

We lived on a huge tract of land in Ontario for many years when I was really young ... folks owned a golf course ... pine straw was a pretty common mess up there as well albeit never had that name for it.
