smoking

God I love getting parcels in the mail. Especially when you can light 'em up.

5 Vegas robustos ... not strong but a short fast 40 minute smoke for late evening studio breaks.

Sol Cubano Maduro torpedos. Sweet, sweet, sweet wrapper and a 6.5" slow burner for when you know the day is completely done. Chilling on the terrace for a couple hours, just staring out over Chai Wan.

And a big fat wheel of Honduran Primeros ... cheap as hell robustos ... but one of the few ... if only? ... budget cigars with long leaf filler and a really decent quality wrapper. Faultless construction and an even burn. My choice of BBQ / Junk trip cigars ... when you want a smoke but can't give it your undivided attention, these are good to go.

Added all that lot to the humidor with my Monte Cristos, Macanudos and Gurkhas and cracked open one of the 5 Vegas for a cheeky (and out of character mid-afternoon) toke. Should've waited a couple weeks for them to settle down after the shipping (a bit dry), but what they hell ... sun was shining and the mobile got switched off for 40 minutes.

It's going to suck when they ban smoking in bars next year. How many relationships started over "got a light?" ...!

In hospitals, pre-schools, beaches, parks and restaurants, gyms, asthma conventions, cinemas, shopping malls and even in the street ... fine ... I agree with you on all those points. But in bars? Gimme a break. And don't tell me the HK government is 100% committed to improving air quality in the city. That, they are definitely not.

Never seen BVSC but I know what you mean :) Cubans are really nice but half the taste is psychological. Honduran and Dominican are just as good if not better for the money. I'm a failed ex-smoker ... gave up in earnest 3 years ago but every time the weekend rolls around I start getting drunk then I'm stealing cigs off people. And cigarettes taste like SHIIIIIIIIIIIT compared to even a cheap cigar. But then cigars have got to be the most anti-social habit on the planet. Save it for home or smoking clubs. They have no place in public.

I agree with you on that ... Cigar smoke can be really heavy and as much as I love them myself, we do kick people out of Yumla if they smoke anything other than cigarettes. Anyone who smokes 'gars standing around in a public bar is just being a showy twat. Like drinking fine malt whiskey with Coke in it. Too many other smells & distractions get in the way and whole purpose is lost. Never in the flat, never in public. Always at the studio and most of the time outside. Suits me fine that way. The smell when they are alight is nice & rich, it's just when some fool stubs it out that you get that heavy oily fug. Short answer, never stub.

Living around the Soho area, I'd question the smoking ban in bars for even more reasons (even as a successful ex-smoker).. Now, all that happens is that you get pavements full of people smoking, getting in the way, making a noise, generally being smug and being even MORE anti-social than if they were all in the bars smoking to their hearts content (bad choice of words, but you know what i mean..) Cigars are a whole different world (and one I dont mind dabbling in once in a while, when the mood is right.. A bit like LSD..)

Well good point ... liquor licenses are often cancelled on the grounds of noise complaints ... will be interesting to see how much harder this f*&^ing industry gets when people start piling outside making a racket. If they ban smoking in bars (and we're not doing any business while the people are outside our licensed area) then they should not make us responsible for the people standing around yapping their heads off. Which at the moment, most licensed premises are. The number of hoops you need to leap through just to stay open is a complete ballache and it's getting worse. Rents, import costs, new regulations. Barely worth the aggro. Which is what They want :)

if its getting that hard to comply with the laws, maybe you can convert yumla into an organic juice bar complete with meditative 'quiet zone'! be healthy and never offend the neighbors again! just kidding!

Jesus ... the last thing Central needs is a health orientated juice bar ... with skin whitening creams! --- Cigars are marginally less unhealthy than cigarettes but compared to say ... lettuce, they are evil and will kill you.

Not allowed to smoke on beaches or in parks. You are allowed to smoke if you stand on the steps, however. That area is operated by the highways department and you are allowed to smoke in areas where there is a high risk of traffic, falling or other forms of injury. Legally our location is of no benefit whatsoever.
