Being a christian is ALL about having a relationship with God and your fellow man through Jesus Christ.
I love using the analogy of knowing a famous soccer player like Beckham or perhaps even the president of the United States. If you love Beckham you can go to every single soccer match, be the captain of his fan club, or even have every single poster of him, but the in the end you still do not really “know” him. Your relationship with him is still very superficial.Or perhaps the president. I could read every single book and know all the facts of who he is where he’s from, but in the end I still don’t really have a relationship with him. It’s only when I meet him face to face and he calls me friend, that I’m really able to start building a relationship with him.
Didn’t I prophesy in your name? Didn’t I heal sick in your name? How is it that God’s going to say, “Get away from me, I did not know you.” God knows all the facts about you too. He knows how many hairs are on your head, but He still wants to know you as a friend. Friendships only develop out of intimacy.
This may seem like a very basic to truth to most Christians, but Jesus challenged us to take it a step further. The second greatest commandment is to love our neighbor as ourselves. If you say you love God, but don’t love your brother, you’re a liar. It’s very common inside the body of Christ to have intellectual and “religious” relationships with one another.
I myself am guilty of having these superficial relationships, and have been convicted by God to break down these religious walls. The bible says that the world will know us for our love for one another. I’m hoping that I can model this starting with those who I call my church.
Love = No Fear
