To the guitar playaz,
There comes a time in your guitar playing where you go "oohh" or "aaahh" and I had those moments this week. I think I'm starting to get the idea of "play by ear."
In the past, I always think that "play by ear" is somekind of a gift. I had to rely on tabs, and I was convincing myself that sooner or later I'll find patterns through tabs and I can develop my craft from there. But in so doing, I was actually reducing the spectrum or possibilities of guitar / theory.
But ever since I started writing songs, there are times where you have a melody or a direction that you want to go to, and you want to dress up that melody with the right chords. I find that I'm starting to get better at this now.
And also the same principle applies to figuring out a cover song.
Check out the video by Nuno Bettencourt. He also explains this concept quite well
