Last weekend I had a really interesting conversation with my vocal coach, the beautiful Krystal Diaz and I had a "lightbulb" moment.
We got on talking about my songwriting and I had to re-instate that the rest of the year is all about songwriting and finding my own voice or style. Krystal then suggested that we go back to working on timeless classics. We talked about Sinatra, we talked about Motown, we talked about Lionel Richie's "Hello" (ok the video sucked, but I can feel the pain through his lyrics)
It was a good conversation because it steered me away from the "output" mindset and it anchored me to think more about writing great songs. Not 'ok' songs, but GREAT songs. I'm now going to take the time because I understand the importance of writing 3 great songs, as opposed to writing 5 so-so songs.
Will I churn out the next "Fly Me To The Moon"? Will I churn out the next "I Want You Back". Only time will tell but I'm loving every moment of this Continuum. A continuum that I call - Songwriting.
We all live in such hectic cities, here's a toast to "Taking your time" - Eric
