Last night was America's Independence Day, so I took the day off from making music (check out Funemployed Ep. 3&4 released last week which I scored. Already working on new episodes!) to lounge on the beach, eat, watch soccer, and caught some amazing fireworks from the 4th floor deck of a lawyer friend's beach house. So if you want a house on the beach, go to law school and not music school.
I'm a big soccer fan and caught up on World Cup games all weekend. Here's a little known fact: I played soccer from 4 years old until freshman year of high school when I played on the junior varsity team. My high school coach hated me and when I missed a game for a clarinet audition, he made me sit on the bench the rest of the season. So I quit soccer to focus on music, but who knows, I could have played with Landon Donovan... though probably not.
Fortunately I went into music and found my true passion. In high school, our marching band did a parade at Disney World and I got to see the most amazing fireworks show because it was synchronized with laser lights and music. Ever since I've been spoiled and haven't been as blown away by a fireworks show, but I haven't seen a fireworks show in a while. Last year I was at my cousin's wedding in Taiwan and the two years before that I was playing with the Golden State Pops Orchestra on the beach, so the fireworks were happening above me while I was playing.
So this year I got to see a really great fireworks show from a good vantage point. I cut together a video and set it to some rousing music of my own. Music just makes fireworks awesome and I think it's more exciting than when I saw it live. I used music from a score I composed for a film called Sailfish. Check out tracks 1-3 on my Dreams in the Morning album to hear themes from that score. The final music is from S.P.H.A.G.E.T.T.-1, a western/sci-fi/adventure short film that I was working on exactly a year ago, which was a nightmare because of loud construction on my apartment building, my computer dying, going to Taiwan, and my deadline being moved up while I was in Taiwan. Fortunately, I delivered the score on time despite many sleep deprived nights and this is the first time I'm sharing this music online.
