So here I am in Beijing.
Let me tel people a little about myself. I studied acting, and I started making films in college. back in the nineties in new york it was just a weeked job to pay the bills. now I can't get a way from it.
I started out as a grip, while other actors in new york waited tables, I figured I could learn more if i was always on film sets. I was fortunate enough to be on an independant film, not ater long I got to be Dolly Grip. a few shows after that I was mixing in with the electricians and learning how to tie in. that is scary, especially when the first time you do it the other guy is standing there poised with a two by four to bat you away from the wires incase you make a circuit with your body. that never happened to me, but i saw it happens once. wow. who needs expensive special effects, just set your camera up when your electrician is tieing in and you have a great electrocution scene waiting to happen. just kidding!!!
I'm not going to go through my whole story, but basically. I have been doing martial arts since i was young, and then I came to study at the Beijing university of physical education. there I majored in WUSHU. it is the same school that Donnie Yen went to. and I found out later that my dorm room was the same room that Donnie lived in. Small world.
I have been Living in China for the past nine years, and early on I found myself making films, I moved into stunt work, Assistant Directing a few times as producer, Martial arts choreographer(in both CHina and Hong Kong, I am most proud of this above all my other achievements, because I really had to fight to get those first ones) and lots of acting.
altogether I've acted in over 80 films, tv movies and tv series combined. And I just recently got my First Professional Directing Credit for a TVC. the product was "Ya Shi Li Paint" (i'll post that later, maybe people can give me some tips on how to improve my style)
Being a foreigner acting and working in the Chinese and Hong Kong film industry is a bit of an uphill battle. Sometimes there is no work at all. I have even been homeless here. But with the help of some friends (who are more like family) you just keep fighting and going up.
I am glad to be here. and there is no place better. I'm American, but China is my home.
Take care everybody
