Wow. I didn’t expect such a huge wave of emotion to hit me upon seeing familiar faces in the opening scene of the movie. I think the moment I saw @janiceymkoh muttering Cantonese under her breath (with @dan_jenkins3 in the same scene too!) it hit me - that these (and subsequent familiar faces) are faces I’ve seen all over the local theatre and TV scene growing up and BAM now they’re on the silver screen in front of me, in a Hollywood movie??!? I never dared to think this was even possible! And though I cant even imagine living the luxurious lives these characters do (just fyi to the rest of the world who’re watching this, 99% of us Singaporeans will probably not even get a whiff of this amount of wealth in our lifetimes lol) it IS based on real life, so this sneak peek into the lives of the secretly rich and only-famous-if-you’re-in-the-know was an eye opening one. What we probably can relate to though, is the universal yearn for a sense of belonging and approval, the crushing feeling that you will never be enough, and the reminder that you are. This was a ton of fun and a whole lotta love - best shown Asian mum style. ? . P.S. Am experiencing major FOMO knowing I could’ve been an extra on set/ had a shot at being Constance Wu’s stand in when they filmed this in Singapore last year but couldn’t because of schedule conflicts ? Maybe next time! . Thank you for this, @kevinkwanbooks @jonmchu and all at @crazyrichasians who made this happen!
