Japan’s largest Yakuza gang has become one of the most dangerous crime
syndicates in the world and should probably never be taken lightly. It’s that the organization
isn’t one you want to cross. Of course, they’d like to change our opinion about that.
How exactly did they plan to start? Well, the largest clan, the Yamaguchi-gumi
out gifts of up to 30,000 yen (about €240 / $330) to kids at last year NYE party.
In addition to the wads of cash, which were neatly tucked into envelopes
bearing the names of several gang bosses, various toys and snacks were also provided.
Witnesses say hundreds of parents accompanying children were seen arriving for the gifts,
which some newspapers estimate cost the group about €132,000 / $183,000.
“It’s not the first time this has happened,” said a spokesman for Kobe police,
who claimed he was unaware of the party. “There’s nothing illegal
in giving people gifts, so we have no reason to intervene.” It is likely one step for
the gang try to legalize the illegal crime.
One of the boses who were mentioned on the envelopes is about to finish off a prison
sentence for weapons violations. I assume the general kids could not understand what
was the meaning behind but they would definitely feel grateful for what they were given.
